Bossy parents cause older teens to indulge in more sex

Dr Rebekah Levine Coley of Boston College in her research have found that adolescents who take part in family activities more often have sex less frequently, less unprotected sex and few sex partners. Parents who don't want their teens to engage in risky sexual behaviour shoud make family time a priority, Dr Rebekah's studies suggest.
“Warm, more democratic relationships — in which parents do not use negative and psychologically controlling behaviours — could help parents to communicate values, increase adolescents’ identification with their parents, help youth to develop healthy decision-making skills and also keep youth away from negative peer influences,” said Coley.
I find the above suggestions in line with Choice Theory which recommnends that 'when you stop controlling, you gain control.' Click here to read more.
